Just bought some AirPod gen 3s and when I tried to connect them they say “Cannot Verify as real AirPods. Does this mean that they’re fake?

Just bought some AirPod gen 3s from a someone selling them, NOT the from apple themselves. When I go to connect then to my phone it says “Cannot Verify” and there’s a text that says they cannot be verified as AirPods and may not behave like them. Does this mean they’re fake.

Hi Kayden008,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. It does sound like you may not have authentic AirPods. It's always best to buy from an Authorized Apple Reseller or directly from Apple to ensure you're getting the real deal. You may consider taking them to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store to have a technician properly evaluate them. You can make an appointment using this link: Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options.

Take care.
