Confirm Macbook pro password

Hi, I've been having an issue with my month-old MacBook Pro asking for me to confirm my password to continue using iCloud.

I have a persistent notification about it, 24/7. If I open the notification I get the window below to start with:

If I click 'continue' it flashes up the little pop up animation below for less than a second. I had to keep trying to grab it in a screenshot, but eventually managed it before it disappeared. The window is just the great box with the loading animation, which fades out in about half a second and disappears, leaving me in the same place as before.

Nothing I can do will clear it/ It does not give me the opportunity to put in my password. No password entry box appears and neither is it hidden behind anything. I have rebooted the MacBook, I've signed out of the laptop and back in again, signed out of iCloud, disconnected all of my iCloud services, rebooted and signed back in again after that to reconnect them all and it is the same every time.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to clear this?

I’ve tried booting up in safe mode now, which didn’t work.

I also disconnected all of my iCloud services, sign out on the MacBook Pro, reboot, sign back into iCloud and reconnect all the services and that still didn’t fox it, and now it’s sort of stuck out of sync and I can’t access newly created documents, etc from elsewhere.

I feel completely at a loss with it :(
