Can 3rd gen AirPods be charged in a 2nd gen case?

I have an 3rd generation airpod and lost my charging case. Is any apple charging case will charge both generation airpods? Eg 2nd generation ?

yes, it will charge. However your Apple device will show an error saying that they don’t match.
