macOS Ventura 13.2 Broke High Refresh Rate Monitors

I have a 16" M1 Pro Macbook and a 4k 144hz external monitor (Aorus FI32U) connected directly via USB C. On Ventura 13.1, I was able to select 144hz refresh rate from the Display preferences, following these instructions. (Selecting the external monitor instead of the internal Macbook display.) This worked great: my monitor had a smooth refresh rate and excellent resolution.

After updating to Ventura 13.2, I immediately noticed that high refresh rate had been turned off during the update. I went back to the Display preferences, and 144hz was no longer an option -- only 60hz. Since nothing changed other than the 13.2 update, the 13.2 update seems to be the culprit.

This is not helpful -- 4k@144hz is supported by the M1 Pro (as it takes less bandwidth than 8k@60hz). In fact, my post outlines that this was working correctly before the latest macOS update, so it definitely was supported. So I'm inclined to believe this is a bug.

Hello ntomallen,

Please check out the following link, which outlines the number of external displays that you can use with your Mac, and the supported resolution and refresh rate of each display, which may be helpful: How many displays can be connected to MacBook Pro

Other MacBook Pro models

Check the tech specs for your older MacBook Pro model to find an overview of the maximum number of external displays supported, and the maximum resolution and refresh rate supported on each display.

Please also be sure to review all of the information outlined in the link you mentioned, which outlines the refresh rates for your device, which may be helpful as well: Change the refresh rate on your MacBook Pro or Apple Pro Display XDR

These are almost the same problems that existed with macOs 12.x. And it's the same unqualified answers. Requires getting into higher support level. At least they know that it's not the cables that cause the problems. They couldn't help right away either, but at least i had the feeling that they knew what they were talking about and quickly forwarded it to the right people.

I personally have had the experience. That is also the reason why I will not switch to Vetura for a long time.

Not helpfull. I know. Be patient
