2021, 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro,
Absolutely no external device is recognized after upgrading. No matter what I plug in or which port I use they don't show on the desktop or in Disk Utility.
I have tried thumb drives, SanDisk Extreme 2TB drive (USB-C,) an external LG DVD writer, as well as a standard external drive. Nothing. Zip.
All works fine on my wife's M1 MacBook Air.

Try a SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies
Login and test. Reboot as normal and compare your results.
