That is indeed the answer! Unfortunately, the answer is yes, if I was using apple input hardware. With magic mice and trackpads, I could pinch, etc.
With a third party mouse with there buttons, there are no keyboard + mouse button combos to allow zooming and panning. For example in many applications, option+middle mouse button might pan a document.
That seems a bit of a fabricated situation that makes Apple hardware "better"... They can look in their own developer documentation for how to implement key+mouse combos.

I am looking for this too. Something similar to Miro for example, where holding space lets you pan, and option-scroll is to zoom.
Any hotkeys for this yet?
