iphone 12 ios 16 won't display with apple hdmi adapter on my TV

I just got a new-to-me iphone 12 pro max running ios 16 and can not get it to display downloaded videos thru my apple hdmi adapter to my TV. It worked fine with my iphone 11.

Any ideas? ( I have tried using a newer apple hdmi adapater, and tried using a 4k hdmi cord but still not luck?

Hi there Miacuaniello,

You'll want to start by making sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS 16, which is iOS 16.3. You can check that in Settings > General > About > Software Version. If needed, learn more about updating your iPhone here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Next, have you tried using AirPlay instead of a direct connection? Make sure your TV is listed as compatible with AirPlay 2. You can check the list here: Home app - Accessories - Apple

Are you able to stream content instead of playing downloaded videos? Which specific adapter are you using? Make sure you have the correct one listed here: About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Thanks!
