Download folder erases itself every 24 hours or so on its own.

I have noticed that my downloads folder randomly or more or less every few days deletes everything it. If I want to keep files I download I have to manually move them to another folder and then it stays but whatever is in my download folder will be automatically deleted. I do not use any disc clean or nothing. this just happens on its own. I am updated to the latest Monterey version 12.6 on my MacBook Air 2020, m1 chip. No idea what's going on but its really inconvenient. Please help me understand this.

The use may what to revise the assertion " I am updated to the latest Monterey version 12.6 on my MacBook Air 2020, m1 chip."

The latest version as of Monday Jan 23, 2023 is version 12.6.2

The Downloads Folder and the Trash Folder are side by side in the Sock on the 3 Apple Computers I use.

Is it possible the download content was move to Trash in error ?

Then, if Finder is set to Empty Trash after 30 Days

Which apps are putting files in your download folder? Do you use Safari, Firefox? Do you download Mail attachments? etc.

Start by creating an alternative download folder.

Set preference in one app i.e. select the new download folder.

Download things.

See if behaviour reproduces.

If not, set the download folder for the second app to the alternative one.

Download things.

See if behaviour reproduces.

etc.

find the culprit, update your question.
