Apple doesn’t explicitly list error #4045, however, 4000-series errors are often associated with the host computer having difficulties contacting Apple’s servers. Communication difficulties of this nature are often linked with Anti-Virus and/or firewall software running on the host computer.

While you do so entirely at your own risk, try temporarily disabling your AV/Firewall software - and then repeat your attempt to restore your iPad. Many similar reports have suggested that the error can resolved though using a computer’s USB Type-A port and a appropriate USB Type-A to USB-C cable - for example:

  • mophie USB-A Cable with USB-C Connector (1 m)

Otherwise, you may need to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, if you have access to another Apple device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to provide assistance:

Hey nick213Burn,

We'd recommend reviewing this article as it provides steps that can help resolve restore errors: iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

"Try these steps first

  1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, make sure your Mac is up to date. If you have a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or a PC, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes.
  2. If your device couldn't be restored and you get a message that "an unknown error occurred [error number]," use these steps. "

Thanks!
