HomePod Mini will not play music from playlists in Apple Music library. No one seems to be able to figure this out.

We bought an Apple Mini for primarily one reason" to play music from playlists we created in our Apple Music library. Simple, right? Saying to Siri, "play playlist Summer 2012" gets a response that it "cannot be found". This does not work and after 3 calls with Apple Support, they cannot figure this out. The HomePod is a useless dust collector.

Thank you for the suggestions. So far, nothing works. Siri just cannot find/play any created playlists. Siri understands single songs or artists but playlists have never been possible. Does Siri play from playlists others have created and play on HomePod? This function works in my iPhone but never on HomePod.

Do you have a subscription to either the Apple Music or iTunes Match service. Apple calling their iTunes replacement Music can be somewhat confusing. Without one or other of these services Siri on HomePod is limited to calling up content from your unhidden purchase history and wouldn't be expected to be able to access your playlists. See Remote control for HomePod, not using AirPlay - Apple Community. Are you able to see and select your playlists using this method?

Yes I can ask for the playlists I created. Have a look in the Home App in Home Settings - Your name to be sure Apple Music is enabled, it usually is by default. The only other thing I can think of which can cause some hiccups if not enabled, might be in the iOS device you used to set up HomePod, in Find My - Share my location. Or if it is on, turn it off, restart device then turn back on

While it seems as if Siri just cannot handle playing playlists on my HomePod (and thanks again to everyone who has made suggestions), I can handoff my playlist from my iPhone to the HomePod. This is better than nothing- defeats the purpose of Siri but it is better than being limited to playing only one song at a time and having to ask for an individual song for HomePod to work.

The primary reason I bought the HomePod was to play my playlists (that I have created from music I bought from iTunes). I am very selective about the music that I like (I do not like current music, streaming music or radio stations- and really only listen to older music). I still buy a few older songs in iTunes once in a while, but happy with the playlists that I have. Before buying the HomePod, I used a Bose speaker and that worked well with my iPhone, Macs, and iPads. While the HomePod can also serve as a speaker in the same way, I was hoping Siri would be able to play the playlists. It just does not seem possible (hopefully future software upgrades will permit Siri to recognize Playlists and names).

I do appreciate all of the suggestions. It appears as if others have had this issue.

Thanks tt2. No, I do not have any music subscriptions (would be a waste as I do not care for current music and my purchased music library is fairly complete with what In listen to). Sad that HomePod/Siri is so limited. I like to play certain playlists when I work out and HomePod/Siri cannot help with that (although I can use Apple AirBuds but they do fall out often). I did purchase all of my music in the libraries from Apple (iTunes) and it seems unfair that Apple Siri/HomePod cannot play them as I thought that they would. I do appreciate your advice however- will use hand off from my iPhone to HomePod without any Siri use.

Have a great day!
