iCloud synchronization of file-remarks

All my files are on iCloud-drive. When I have created remarks in the info of a file, I cannot see that remark when opening the file info on another device. It is only visible on the original device. (e.g. a remark on an iCloud file via MacBook is not visible when opening the file via my iMac and visa versa of course).

Is there a solution for that problem?

Hello peter5604,

It sounds like you're referring to leaving comments on files in the Finder on your Mac. It also looks like you're running macOS Ventura 13.1. Depending on the operating system used on the other Mac, it may be unable to read the comment provided on the file. You may need this iMac to support Ventura for these comments to appear across your associated devices using iCloud Drive.

It's always important to confirm all apps would be compatible with this newer operating system. It is also encouraged to create a backup of your data before any upgrade: Back up your Mac

For help with determining if you can support Ventura on this iMac, see the following:

Hoping this helps out, take care.

Hi peter5604,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

Hopefully you haven’t given up entirely. We’d like to make sure those comments actually made it to iCloud Drive.

Sign in and use iCloud.com - Apple Support -- Using a browser, sign directly into iCloud.com from the Mac you used to create the comment, select iCloud Drive, and check the document(s) you’ve commented on. If they’re there, on the other Mac, turn iCloud Drive off, wait a few moments, then turn it back on again: Set up iCloud Drive - Apple Support

If the comments still aren’t showing on the other Mac, we recommend contacting Apple Support to look into this issue further with you: Get Support

All the best.

Thanks for your reply but I clearly missed to make my point. If files are in iCloud and both my devices (iMac & Macbook) can access (read alter, ...) these files, one could assume that all file-attributes would be visible for both devices. One of these attributes is "comments" that I use as alternative of using file-tags ("comments" is free text used to give some indication on concrete file content).

My point is that comments entered with one device (eg iMac) are not visible in my MacBook and vice versa.
