Apple Music and Podcasts resume play at full volume

Apple iPhone 13 mini with iOS 16.1.2. This happens frequently when I switch Bluetooth between car speakers and headphones, but sometimes when I simply pause playback (music or podcast) and resume in a few hours. The volume plays AT PAINFULLY FULL VOLUME thru my headphones for a few seconds. Painful to the point I have to rip the headphones off my head. This happens even if I use the volume down button on the side of the phone prior to resuming the playback.

Note Music / Sound Check is Off (prior posts have suggested turning it off).

Since you're using an outdated version of the iOS software, that might be contributing to the issue.

Please check for any pending iOS updates, which can help make sure the software is working as expected. Use the steps here:

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

If the issue continues, try restarting all involved devices and then testing again.
