can't add new contact

I'm switching back to Contacts from Gmail but when I click add contact the fields to fill out disappear before I can even get to the last name. I have to save the card then open again with that name. Sometimes even then the name is not saved. I have to try three or four times as quickly as possible.

Hi FFFF,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your contacts are not saving and the contact card is closing while you're trying to fill it out. If you haven't already, restart your computer to refresh running processes. Restart your computer in safe mode. Safe mode limits start up extensions allowed to run while running a health check on your Mac's disk. IN safe mode, trying creating the contacts.

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again."

These steps are found in How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Regards.
