Appletv remote stuck on one channel

Appletv remote stuck on either "Live" or can move down to TV channel lineup but cannot scroll down further than just one channel. I found if you double click on "LIVE" very quickly, you will get picture in picture, and your ability to scroll downward once again is restored. However, it does not explain why it started in the first place.
