Text notifications when using Apple watch

Has Apple come up with a way to allow text notifications sounds on iPhone when using Apple Watch? It is embarrassing to miss friends texts and I have stopped using my Apple Watch because of this design flaw. Am I missing something?

Thanks for responding. The issue I have is all notifications to the Watch are the same. I get email notifications and other notifications and so I do not know which are text messages. Perhaps I can turn off all notifications to the watch except for text messages?

If the iPhone screen is on, text notifications go to your iPhone. If the iPhone screen is off, notifications go to your Apple Watch. They do not go to both. You most assuredly can get text notifications on your watch with sounds or haptics, which should alert you to an incoming message. So, I'm not sure why you are missing messages, when either your phone or watch are capable of notifying you.

Personally, I use Haptics on my watch and have them set to Prominent. I get a tap, which I can't miss on my wrist when a notification arrives.
