I have my Photolibrary stored on external hard drives. Just tried to access my 2020 drive and I received this error message when trying to open it in Photos. I'm pretty sure I have updated my computer since the last time I accessed this drive. I have a MacBook Pro with Monterey 12.5.1. I have seen other people with questions similar to mine but have not found an answer.

How are the external drives formatted, particularly the 2020 one, and connected to your Mac? It must be formatted either as APFS or OS X Extended (journaled) and preferable with Ownership set to be ignored and connected directly to the Mac.
Can you tell me how to determine how it is formatted? I used this Seagate drive for Photos from 2018 until 2022 when it was reaching capacity and I got a new one. Both my older Seagate drive (2016-2018) and my current one work without any errors. FYI I don't believe the entire drive is corrupted as I can still access my photos stored on the drive for Lightroom.
Control (right) - click on the drive's icon on the Desktop and select Get Info from the contextual menu. In the Info window at the top will be how the drive is formatted.
