HomeKit location user not available

Hello from Greece,

I’m highly dissatisfied with iOS 16.2’s function on HomeKit. In specific, after update I couldn’t add my wife as second user/resident in our HomeKit. Finally I managed it but now location function does not work. I mean that all menus, options and location settings are turned on however we have some automation where do work when the last person leaves home. Unfortunately this is not happening. Moreover I noticed that when I work the HomeKit with my phone, with my account everything seems working good. When I check the same with my wife’s phone, HomeKit says that my location is not available despite I have it always turned on. I hope I’m being understood and somebody might be help me out.

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. If having issues with location-based automations, and other location services not working as expected with HomeKit, check out the steps listed in the following resources below that can help with troubleshooting this issue.


First if using a HomePod as your home hub, let's ensure your home hub is set up correctly using the steps outlined here: Set up your HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or iPad as a home hub


Let's also ensure that your wife's iPhone and the device that you're using as your home hub is updated as well. These links will walk you through how to do this:

Update HomePod

Update your iPhone or iPad


Lastly, enable the following settings on the primary iOS devices that are used with HomeKit since they are needed for location-based automations:

• Settings > [your name] > Share My Location > From > "This Device"

• Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Home > While Using

• Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > HomeKit > On


If this continues to occur after completing those steps, then Apple Support would be the best equipped to investigate this further. Reach out here: Apple Support

Hello again,


First of all thank you very much for your quick response. I have already followed all those steps you mentioned and proposed me. Unfortunately still nothing works. I’m afraid it might be a location sharing issue with a restriction between me and my wife’s iPhones. Let’s let me be more specific. When I leave the house it doesn't notify either of us or activate any automation based on our location (I have set up automation when the last person leaves the house). But when anyone of us returns home then it notifies us normally (I have set an automation to be activated when either of the two arrives home). I guess the issue lies in some limitation between two of us that does not allow to "see and read" one another's location.

Δημήτρη καλησπέρα. Αντιμετώπιζα κι εγώ το ίδιο θέμα μέχρι την πλήρη κατάρρευση του Homekit με την 16.3. Εγώ πάντως είχα εντοπίσει το πρόβλημα στο γεγονός ότι το σήμα (cosmote) κοντά στο σπίτι ήταν τραγικό και αν ήμασταν με το αυτοκίνητο και πηγαίναμε στο υπόγειο parking τότε υπήρχε σοβαρό θέμα, δεν προλάβαινε να μας εντοπίσει. Το πρόβλημα κυρίως ήταν όταν ερχόμασταν, κατά την αναχώρηση πάντα μας έβλεπε.

Επίσης περίεργο ότι ενώ η camera (logitech circle view 2) μας καταλάβαινε δεν γινόταν το ίδιο με τους υπόλοιπους αυτοματισμούς.

Μπορείς να αναφέρεις τι έχει γίνει κι αν έστρωσε το θέμα σου;
