Daily limit for (total) uploads to iCloud Drive?

Hi All,

Is there a daily limit to the amount of data (files, etc) that you can upload to iCloud Drive?

Of course, it is limited by the amount of storage one is paying for, but often cloud services also limit the amount of data that can be uploaded each day. I am not asking about the maximum file size but the maximum amount of data (files, etc) that can upload per day to iCloud Drive.

It would be nice if Apple could be clear about these things, if there is a limit (or not). I have 2TB and my uploads seem to be stalling for some reason. Of course, no easy and user-friendly way to see why, if it's a specific file or permissions or something that is causing the pause.

I am sure Apple wants it to "just work" but when it doesn't it would be helpful for us to know why, i.e. know any limits and see any issues.

DropBox, OneDrive,... all do this very well now.

Cheers,

Ashley.

Thank you, but how do you know that?

Have you uploaded hundreds of GBs in one day?

I am seeing fast uploads for 50-100GB (I don't know exactly when it slows down) and then slowing to a trickle, if anything (practically zero).

I am waiting for 24 hours to see if it "resets" and speeds up again. Of course, it could be a particular file causing problems, but no info from macOS.

I think uploads may also start very fast and then slow after 10s of GBs, and may even slow if there is lots of processing activity, i.e. its low priority.

Yes. Well, not in one day, no. But hundreds of GB, yes. Again, an initial sync can take a long time depending on the total size of files you are uploading. I cannot recall the exact duration but I know the last time I set up a system that required a complete upload of 800 GB, it took about a week.

That's not surprising. The sync should happen in the background. Plug it in, walk away, and see how far it gets. Restarting will add time as the files need to compare the current sync state again.

Thanks for your reply.

If it took a week for 800GB, I think that's inline with some upload limit per day. I can get 2MB/s upload at the start then it slows, and then it stops for all practical purposes.

I'm putting my money on a daily upload limit, to limit abuse and inappropriate use of iCloud.

I do walk away, I leave Finder as the front-app, I kill all other apps, it's during a low network load period, I have fibre to the home, I have a faster ethernet LAN, etc.

Would be nice if Apple would state these limits (if they exist).
