High pitched loud tone during calls

After updating to 16.2, my husband’s iPhone 12 is experiencing a very loud, constant high-pitched tone on phone calls. It doesn’t matter who originated the call or from what area code. He has restarted but no change.

Anyone have a fix or suggestion, please?!

High pitched noise when call is not answered I have been told by several people that when they call me and I do not answer the phone they get a very high-pitched screeching noise. This happened on my prior iPhone version 11 and now is happening on my iPhone 14 Pro. It does not happen when I decline a call.

I'd suggest he start by contacting his carrier.
