Why does Mail always search All mailboxes

Why in Mail.app when you've clearly selected a single mailbox and you type in your search does it then choose to search All Mailboxes?

Why is the search function of Apple Mail so bad? It's strange: The search bar of Apple Mail automatically completes the search query up to exactly the "subject" of the searched email. But the email itself can't be found. Often, in-app searches don't find the searched email. Sometimes it does. Why so selective? No matter what account, what MacOS.

It should keep whatever setting you had used previously. I don't know why it doesn't work that way for everyone, but there have been a few posts asking the same thing.
