Pairing Apple Watch for family member error message com.apple.family.error 1002

I am trying to pair an apple watch to my phone for a family member and keep receiving this message "com.apple.family.error 1002". The only option is to press OK and the watch then unpairs.


Has anyone had the same error message? How have you managed to resolve it?


I have been to the apple shop and been put onto apple support who had not heard of this error message before

Make sure you have no security software or vpn installed on the parental iphone. This can block URLS .

Ensure the family member has their own Apple ID.

Ensure all other requirements in What you need in

Set up Apple Watch for a family member - Apple Support

are met
