Compromised Apple ID (Taken over by a thief)

My iPhone 11 Pro Max (iOS 16) got robbed and the thief was able to figure out my passcode. He then changed my apple ID password and recovery/trusted phone numbers, rendering me no access to my own apple ID. I only saw email notifications to this a little too late. Now I cannot recover my apple ID anymore even though I still own the Gmail address for the Apple ID. I contacted apple support and they were unable to help me. I doubt anyone else can but I thought I should put it out here anyway. I wonder why, amongst the trusted/recovery numbers, the email address is not an option for recovery. That could have helped me in this case. If there is any possible help out here, please reach out. I badly need my apple ID account back. Help a brother!
