M1 Mac mini won't recognize old iPod-mini

I have an old iPod mini circa 2005 that has a lot of albums that I want to transfer into 'Music' (aka iTunes). But although my M1 Mac-mini running Monterey 12.6.2 shows the iPod-mini via 'system information' it does not show in finder or Music (ver 1.2.5.7) so I don't seem to be able to import my albums from the iPod.

Here is the iPod-mini data that I see via 'System Information':

Product ID: 0x1205

Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)

Version: 0.01

Serial Number: 000A2700143AE4C5

Speed: Up to 480 Mb/s

Manufacturer: Apple

Location ID: 0x02111000 / 11

Current Available (mA): 500

Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

What next? Any thoughts?

Mac mini, macOS 12.6

See Recover media from an iPod - Apple Community. See if you can put the iPod in disk mode, it might show in Finder then.
