Logic Pro audio device stops working when I switch to other apps. no sound

Working on an m1 Mac book air using headphones. If I simply switch to safari or any other app or if I get an incoming phone call, anything that takes the output device's attention away from logic, the sound stops working and the only remedy is to reboot the program.. Under settings>Audio>output device I've tried selecting both "system setting" and "external headphones" but either way I get the same behavior. This is incredibly irritating and I'm fed up. Hopefully someone knows a solution. I've used Logic since 2009 and have never had this issue. I should be able to go search on the internet then come back to logic and keep working without reloading the project every time.

I've had a similar experience intermittently on M1 with the latest OS (13.0.1) and version of Logic (10.7.6). One thing you might be able to do is go to Logic Pro > Settings > Audio and switch the output device and select apply. It doesn't fix the issue, but it saves you from closing and opening the project.
