how do I eliminate multiple, multiple back ups from backup disc?

You don't have to do it: TimeMachine automatically deletes the oldest backups if space is needed

If by backups you mean on Time Machine only one complete backup is made at the start. Subsequent backups contain only changes made since the previous backup, not complete backups.

If you are making backups some other way please explain.
