I have a new M2 MacBook Air running Ventura. I'm getting a repeated error telling me to Update Apple ID Settings. I've logged out and in numerous times to no effect. Any suggestions?

Thanks for reaching out Mark Mcshane,

It sounds like you're getting an alert about your Apple ID settings on your MacBook Air. We can help.

When you see a message about your Apple ID settings, this is different from your user account that you log into the MacBook Air with. These are the settings that we use to verify your account, make purchases, track missing devices, and otherwise manage every Apple device or service with.

You can check out this guide to view and Change Apple ID settings on Mac. Since it wasn't clear which settings need to be updated you may not need to change every setting listed in this guide, but since your Apple ID settings are what is used to verify your identity if you run into any account issues down the road, our recommendation is that you make sure all the requested information is up to date and complete.

Hope that helps.

Take care.

Thank you for your advice. I had alreadty tried logging out from various devices including the MacBook and then logging back in. I've now spent some time working through specific services and trying to manually ensure they are the same on both the MB and my phone.

I'm not making much progress. The MB, which appears to be the only device affected, continues to display the "Update Apple ID Settings" error in the System Settings sidebar.

I have noticed that on the MB I cannot switch off the News, Stocks or Home options. I have tried but the switches remain set. I have restarted holding down the Shift key but that hasn't helped.

I will continue to work through the various settings but I'm not convinced the problem lies with me. It woulkd be helpful if the error message at least indictaed what settiing needs updated. Any further advice will be welcomed.

Regards,

Mark

Thank you for your help. I have already had a session with AS which appeared to sort the issue but it came back. I'll book a session at the local Apple Store and see if they can help.

I suspect a corrupted plist file or an inconsistency between settings on different devices.

Regards,

Mark

PS I wonder of there is a way to "delete" the iCloud.com plist file (or whatever the closest would be).
