How to clear imessage attachments from my iCloud Storage

My 50GB of iCloud storage is full again. 18GB of my iCloud storage is from Messages. However Messages only uses 8GB of storage on my iPhone.

I presume this is because my Messages are backed up in iCloud. I want text to remain backed up, but clear out the storage-hogging attachments.

How can I erase attachments from Message stored only in iCloud?

I see the option to turn off backup of Messages in iCloud, but this does not help because 1/ it appears they still remain backed up for 30 days, and 2/ I want to keep text from Messages (not attachments) backed up in iCloud.

Hello nodnarb & Bruno,

I have the same issue :

  • iPhone storage : 597,9 Mo (wen I touch the sub categories like pictures, videos, GIF, etc.. nothing appears)
  • iCloud Storage : 14,1 Go but when I touch manage stockage I get only 4,19 Go in main conversations
  • Also I don’t want to delete texts I just want to delete media attachments

I took a look at the “Delete texts and attachments in Messages” section. I tried to delete all the pictures of a conversation by touching the name of the contact, etc.

But the next morning or sometimes a few hours later all of them come back !

Also when I scroll down to the bottom of this section, under the pictures, videos and documents it says there is like a hundred more images on iCloud with a download button..

A solution for clearing up space without deleting the entire conversation ?
