Why can't I manage apps, manage watch faces, etc for a family watch from my phone that it's set up with? It seems like there's no way to manage these things when you are talking about a family watch?

The article you came to the community from is the best resource for this situation. All those features are controlled in the Watch app on your iphone. Try installing the required apps on your iphone.

Try unpairing the family watch and setting it up again.
