Apple Pencil 2 stops charging while being attached to iPad

This problem has happened to me quite often recently. I notice sometimes the pencil stops charging despite still being attached to my ipad after a while not using. For example, the pencil was not charged, at 20% battery the next day in the morning. The pencil has to be reattached to be able to charge again.

I didn't have this issue when I first bought it. The pencil stayed charged all the time.

Is this normal or my pencil is starting to malfuntion and should I replace it?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 16

No. This is not normal. You should see about getting this replaced....
