I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, running iOS 16.2. The labels assigned to my contacts continuously change to phone or home. This has been happening for a while now. It's extremely frustrating, especially with contacts where more than one number is assigned. If I select custom (e.g., iPhone) or use standard labels (e.g., mobile, work), they automatically change to phone or home. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Are these contacts stored on your iPhone locally or in another account such as iCloud or a third-party service? Try a normal restart of the iPhone to see if that helps clear up the software issue causing this.

I resolved this problem by going into my iPhone's iCloud settings to turn off Contacts syncing with iCloud, then I signed out of my iPhone. I logged into iCloud on my laptop and deleted all of my Contacts there. It appears to take some time to fully clear out the contact data from iCloud. I don't know how much, but I waited overnight. The next day I corrected all of the contacts on my iPhone, signed back into my iPhone with my Apple ID, then turned on Contacts syncing in iCloud settings. All of my iPhone contacts uploaded and synced correctly with iCloud, and I haven't had a problem since.
Thanks, I did speak with an Apple Support Advisor. I believe the issue is now resolved. I had to remove iOS 16.2 and reinstall by connecting via my Mac Book Pro and then doing a restoring.
