Siri activation tone inaudible in iOS 16

After updating to iOS 16, the beep Siri used to make after I say "Hey Siri" is now a low-volume, low-frequency thud that is inaudible if I'm more than 1 meter away from the iPhone. I can't tell if Siri heard me. What's the point of voice activation if you have to be right in front of the device to use it? Dear Apple UI designers: you have made the "Hey Siri" function unusable by people with mild hearing impairment. Please provide an accessibility setting to correct this.
