Quick Reply no longer working

Yesterday I changed to iPhone 14 pro but I can no longer view a message or use quick reply functions on Lock Screen without opening the message fully. I have searched online and tried various things but I must be missing something as it still does not work.

Can anyone help please?

Hello Twiggydavis,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with using quick actions form the Lock Screen. Have you tried restarting your iPhone? This simple step resolves a multitude of issues: Restart your iPhone

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.

Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.

To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

If that doesn't resolve the issue, does your iPhone need updating to iOS 16.2? Do you have a recent backup for the data in your iPhone in iCloud or your computer? If not, we recommend that you create one as described here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then update your iOS as outlined here: Update your iPhone or iPad

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

We appreciate you clarifying this for us, Twiggydavis,

We understand that you're only experiencing this behavior with WhatsApp. You can adjust notification settings so that you can view and respond to messages on the Lock Screen as outlined here: View and respond to notifications on iPhone

"Respond to notifications

When you have multiple notifications in Notification Center or on the Lock Screen, they’re grouped by app, which makes them easier to view and manage. Notifications from some apps may also be grouped by organizing features within the app, such as by topic or thread. Grouped notifications appear as small stacks, with the most recent notification on top.

Do any of the following:

  • To expand a group of notifications to see them individually: Tap the group. To close the group, tap Show Less.
  • To view a notification and perform quick actions if the app offers them (on supported models): Touch and hold the notification.
  • To open a notification’s app: Tap the notification."

Since WhatsApp isn't an app developed by Apple, we'd suggest that you reach out to the app developer directly if the features of the app aren't working as you'd expect.

If you need help to locate their contact information, you can reference this article which will show you how to locate the app developers contact details via the App Store: How to contact an app developer

Take care!

Thank you for responding. However, none of those options worked. I have even backed up the phone, erased all contents and settings and started again and still it does not work. It works for iMessage and Facebook messages but not WhatsApp.

I also have issues with WhatsApp restoring videos despite selecting to back those up before transferring. I have backed up, deleted WhatsApp and restored 3 times now and quick reply and videos will not work. I am unsure if this is issue with phone as there's a few things that don't feel right.

I live over an hour away from an Apple store also so cannot get there easily to ask for help.
