How to know if iPhone 8 is new or used?

I found a phone listed as new in a white box (looks like cardboard) with 9/14/2022 date printed on it including imei, iccid, and it says it was activated. I used a website to check it. I found another phones imei listed as new (iPhone 14) and said it wasn't activated. So is there a chance the one phone is used and not new? (iPhone 8)

I checked 2 phones imei, and they are 6 months apart from repairs and service expiration date so I think they're used

I would be surprised if the iPhone 8 was new and not used, since Apple discontinued this model more than 2 years ago.

A date of 9/14/2022 indicates to me that the phone has likely been refurbished or remanufactured.

I suppose it is possible that a new iPhone 8 could sit on a shelf in a warehouse for 3 years without ever being sold, but if that were the case, it would be packed like a new phone with a new shrink wrapped box with all the accessories. In other words, it would look like a brand new phone. That is not what you are describing in your post.
