Can I share my Contacts with another Apple ID

I wish to share my Contacts with a different Apple ID. I also want any updates made by either ID to share to the other ID. Is this possible?

Hello waynevanwa,

Currently, there's no native feature that would allow you to share and update changes to contacts automatically between two iCloud accounts.

With that in mind, you can export existing contacts from one iCloud account and import them to another iCloud account using the iCloud website. Import or export a vCard in Contacts on iCloud.com has this information and more.

"Export a vCard

  1. In Contacts on iCloud.com, select one or more contacts in the contacts list.
  2. Click the Show Actions Menu pop-up button in the sidebar, then choose Export vCard.
  3. If you select multiple contacts, Contacts exports a single vCard containing all of them.

Tip: You can export all your contacts as a single vCard and use it as a backup."

"Import a vCard

If the vCard contains contact information for more than one person, each contact becomes a separate entry.

  1. In Contacts on iCloud.com, click the Show Actions Menu pop-up button in the sidebar, then choose Import vCard.
  2. Select a vCard to import."

Cheers!

Hey there waynevanwa,

It sounds like Family Sharing would be helpful when using a different Apple ID and still be able to share data. Learn more below:

Family Sharing makes it easy for up to six family members to share music, movies, TV shows, apps, books, subscriptions including iCloud+, and more, all without sharing an Apple ID.1 You can set up an Apple ID for kids, set permissions remotely with Screen Time, and approve spending and downloads from a parent's device with Ask to Buy.2 You can also set up Apple Cash for a child or teen, or set them up with an Apple Watch.

Continue with steps below to set this up:

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Family Sharing, then tap Set Up Your Family.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your family and invite your family members.

Take care!

Here are the supported means to share contacts and calendars:

Use other contact accounts on iPhone - Apple Support

Share iCloud calendars on iPhone - Apple Support

The former requires setting up a shared contact server somewhere.

Here is how to export and import contacts (on Mac):

Import contacts into Contacts on Mac - Apple Support

Export or archive contacts in Contacts on Mac - Apple Support (yes, export is awkward)

There are third-party services offering CardDAV hosting, and Synology NAS can have a Contacts server running locally. Undoubtedly some other options are available here, too.
