two-step authentication

Somehow, when I got my first iPhone last week, during activation, 2-step authentication was turned on. I didn't realize what a pain that is. I want to turn it off, but when I go to the web as one user suggested, I still don't see a definitive answer. Can someone help me? Thanks.

I assume you made your AppleID while setting up the iPhone, since it was your first iPhone? If so, you cannot disable it. All new AppleIDs for quite some time now are created with it enabled and it cannot be disabled.

Even if this was a pre-existing AppleID, if 2FA was enabled after just 2 weeks on, it is permanently on. Apple requires it for a number of Apple services accessed with your AppleID (e.g. Apple wallet &Apple pay, messages in iCloud, Home Kit, iCloud Keychain, etc).

If you explain your issue with 2FA we can perhaps help. A 2FA code is rarely required unless something is amiss. I’ve been using 2FA for years and I maybe need a code a few times per year at most.

Your AppleID has nothing to do with your yahoo email login? Do you have yahoo 2 step login enabled on your yahoo email account?

AppleID 2 factor authentication has to do with your AppleID (Apple ID - Official Apple Support) and the Apple online services you sign into using that AppleID. It has nothing to do with logging into other online service accounts you have with other service providers, like yahoo, Google, Microsoft, Sony or any other online service account provider.

Okay. Thanks. I suppose because I've been setting up new apps, like my Yahoo email, it wants the two-step. Hopefully, it'll stop when I get all the apps I want set up. Btw, I can't use the 'mail' icon to do my Yahoo email. It doesn't like my email address which has two dots before the @sign. I only switched from Android to iPhone because everyone who has one told me how great they are. Still not too sure.
