Adobe Suite from an external MacOS drive

I'm thinking about replacing my 2013 MBPro (running OS 10.13 and the Adobe Creative Suite) with a new M1 MBPro. BUT - I need to avoid the Adobe subscription expense.

If I take the SSD hard drive out of my 2013 and use it as an external drive on the new M1 Mac, here are my questions:

1. will the M1 boot up from the external 2013 SSD?

2. will I be able to run Adobe apps from that external drive?
