How do I setup custom ringtones on my macbook pro so the Messages App plays my own custom ringtone?

I used to be able to create my own custom ringtones for my Macbook Pro to mirror my iPhone, and to create custom sounds for incoming messages. This used to be accomplished within iTunes before it was "upgraded" to Music where this is no longer available.

I have located the folder where ringtones are stored, but they are not modifiable as they are a system folder. I placed ringtones in my own users folder, but still do not see these available.

Where can I customize my ringtones?

Thanks for getting back to us, Bostinu.

The steps we provided in the article are intended to allow you to create the song on your Mac using GarageBand, then upload it to your iCloud Drive. From there, you can use the sounds on your iPhone or iPad. We're not able to see any screenshot attached to your posting, so we're unsure what was shown there.

Hi Bostinu,

You can create ringtones using Logic Pro or GarageBand as outlined here in this article: Create a ringtone of your Logic Pro or GarageBand for Mac song

Once created, it can be assigned using the following steps:

"

Assign the ringtone

After you’ve exported your project as a ringtone, you can set it as your standard ringtone, or assign it to a contact. Tap "Use sound as," then choose an option:

  • To use the ringtone as your standard ringtone, replacing the existing ringtone, tap Standard Ringtone.
  • To use the ringtone as your standard text tone, replacing the existing text tone, tap Standard Text Tone.
  • To associate a ringtone with one of your contacts, tap "Assign to contact," then choose a contact.
  • To return to the My Songs browser without assigning the ringtone, tap Done.

"

Cheers.

Hi JMarse,

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I already have the file saved as both an .mp3 and .m4r (ringtone). When I "tap" (Right click?) on the file, I do not see the option to "Standard Ringtone" nor "Standard Text Tone". By the context in which you are explaining it, it seems you are explaining how to do that with an IOS device. I wish to do this on my MacbookPro whenever I receive a Message on the Messages App.

Below is a screenshot of the options given to me when I right click on either file:

Hi! Thanks for responding so quickly.

The image is showing on my computer....strange! It's not helpful – there is no option to do this on my MACBOOK.

Again, I already have a ringtone. I do not need to make one.

Again, I already have my own custom ringtones on my iPhone and iPad. I want to do this on my MACBOOK in the Messages App. I want a custom ringtone for receiving text messages on my MACBOOK.
