Weird iMessage behavior on 14Pro

This only happens on my iPhone 14Pro, my iPad and previous phones have never had this issue. Occasionally (I still don't know the pattern yet, so seems randomish) when using iMessage, the device's screen will go blank for a fraction of a second and then make a blip or beep sound (even though my phone is set to silent) and then just comes back. This has only happened in iMessage and only on my message list view, thankfully not while typing. Has anybody else seen this? It doesn't seem to effect other tuning apps. Is this just a bug in the software or is there cause for concern and do I need to take my phone in for repair or not? Thanks.

Hello Trying_To_Learn,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Even though this is a simple step, restarting your device may help.

Let's restart your iPhone and test:

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears. The volume button is located on the left side of the device, and the side button is located on the right
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

More details can be found here: Restart your iPhone

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? When did you first notice this? What is your exact iOS version? Also, does this happen when using cellular data, Wi-Fi, or both?

Cheers!

Hello Trying_To_Learn,

We appreciate those details. If you continue to see the issue, we recommend updating to iOS 16.2. This will assure you have cleared out any minor software issues and are running the most current version.

I did the restart, problem still persist. Really seems to be random. After a month of trying I am not able to successfully find a pattern that consistently reproduces it. I would provide more details, but that's all I have at the moment.

This has been happening since I purchased my new iPhone on Oct 28th. I'm on iOS 16.1 (20B82) happens on WiFi, cellular and even when in airplane mode with all connections off. Bluetooth on or off, doesn't seem to make a difference. It's also difficult to catch, otherwise I'd try and get a screen recording of it.

Thanks!
