How do I change the order of songs within a playlist?

I believe I used to be able to order songs within a created playlist in any order I wanted. However, I can't find that feature now within Apple Music. I'm currently running iOS 16.1.2 (the most current version at this time). I can see how I can sort a playlist by a variety of options, but I would like to create my own order.

I have also tried editing the order in the desktop browser version of Apple Music and there are even less options there to edit a playlist.

Hi jwmanz,

You can edit a created playlist order in Music on both Mac or iPhone.

For iPhone: Create playlists on iPhone - Apple Support

"Edit a playlist you created on iPhone

Tap the playlist, tap  the More button, tap Edit, then do any of the following:

  • Add more songs: Tap Add Music, then choose music.
  • You can also touch and hold an item (song, album, playlist, or music video), tap Add to a Playlist, then choose a playlist.
  • Delete a song: Tap the Delete button, then tap Delete. Deleting a song from a playlist doesn’t delete it from your library.
  • Change the song order: Drag the Reorder button next to a song.

Changes you make to your music library are updated across all your devices when Sync Library is turned on in Music settings. If you’re not an Apple Music subscriber, the changes appear in your music library the next time you sync with your computer."

For Mac, just click, hold and drag the songs to the order you want. You should see a line indicating where in the playlist order the song will drop in once you let go of the mouse or trackpad.

Cheers!
