Deleted Media files going to System Data

i am using VLC. Whenever I place the files in its folder and once I’m done watching it, I delete them in bulk. On deleting it from the files all, in stead of being permanently deleted, it is occupying the System Data past of the storage. How to fix this issue without resetting the iPhone? The system data is 70 gb.

The only solution that works is to erase all data from the iPad and restore from backup.

Any video files deleted from VLC end up in System Data and stay there.

Removing VLC from iCloud does not seem to work.

Restarting in any way does not work.

Deleting and reinstalling VLC does not work.

Hello Ag_1801,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that when you delete media files permanently that system data increases. We are happy to help.

Please use the steps here to restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

Please use your computer to see if the storage shows the same using the steps as listed here: How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

Use the Finder or iTunes to check the storage on your iOS device

  1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. Select your device in the Finder or in iTunes. You'll see a bar that shows how much storage your content uses, divided by content type.
  4. Move your mouse over the bar to see how much storage each content type is using.

Hello green500, why you guys don't have a permanent solution for this. The increasing system data is a really a pain in the ***. I am recently going through the same problem for ipad mini 6. I deleted a folder full of media files, and it went to the system data. Now I have to format the device (actually I am stuck as I have another ipad of 32 gb) ... as I don't have Mac. This is the real cache actually... You have all of their products to avoid the hastle.
