Dictation not working

Dictation not working on MacBook Pro. After pressing fn twice it makes one peep sound and it dose not work. It was working fine and all of the sudden it stopped working. I checked settings and Dictation is set on fn twice, I try to restart the computer and it still dose not work. Every time I click Fn twice it make one peep sounds and nothing else. HELP

On my Mac Mini the Control key is the default to activate Dictation. I cannot get Fn to work, I don't even get the chirp. On my M1 MacBook Pro 14" there is a microphone button on F5. I was able to change the key to the globe / Fn key which worked but didn't work as well as it did on the default setting.

Try another key instead of the Fn key. It seems to be a bit buggy with alternative keys and that could be something else is key bound on the Fn key. The top most entry in the list of Shortcuts should be the default.

You do need to have the text cursor ready and focused on a field or in a word processor, etc. Double-tapping the Shortcut key should result in a chirp sound and you should see a tiny pop-up microphone with most software.
