Text messages taking up all of 5GB storage with attachments

I have an iPhone 11 running iOS 16.1.1 and an iPad Pro iOS 16.1.1 also both using the same AppleID. I do not back up to the cloud except text messages and their attachments. It says my 5GB is full and text messages are taking up 4.3GB of that space. I have deleted a majority of the attachments and they show as deleted on my phone, but they are not deleting from iCloud.

My text messages are no longer showing up on both devices when they did previously.

Hotty,

Thanks for giving those steps a try.

Just to confirm, after deleting the messages and attachments, did you also delete them from the Recently Deleted section as well?

If not, you can do this by going to Messages > Edit > Show Recently Deleted > Delete All. We do want to let you know that this will permanently remove the messages and attachments from your device, and they would not be recoverable.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Take care!

I did not do that the first or second time. I just deleted the Recently Deleted messages and then rebooted both the iPad and the iPhone.

I went back into settings and it still shows that my iCloud is using all 5GB of space, but I assume that it will take some time to replicate the changes back out to the cloud.

I will check it out in a couple of hours. Thanks for helping me with this.
