Red dot (missed calls) on the phone call app

What does this red dot mean and how do I erase it? It doesnt show missed calls because it is just a red dot showing nothing. I have tried everything to make the dot go away, i have erases all missed calls but the dot remains and it is frustrating to see it. I want a clean app.
