Family sharing proof of age

I’m trying to set up an account for my 10yo son on my account. It asks to prove my age. This is by sending a code by sms from my PayPal account. I put in the code I receive and it says service unavailable try again later? Done this a few times now. I get the code but still distant work. Is there anything I can do?

Markbirtles,

We see exactly what you mean. Thanks for providing us with the screenshot. PayPal may not be a payment method that Apple uses to verify your identity, when creating an Apple ID for a child. Please be mindful of the following details:

To verify that you're an adult, you need a credit card. On your iPhone, you can also use a driver's license or state ID added to Wallet.

More details here: Create an Apple ID for your child

With that in mind, you may have to remove PayPal as a payment method to complete this task. That way your credit card will be used to verify your identity. Once everything is set up, you can add PayPal once again.

In gratitude!

Hello Markbirtles,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're running into an issue when trying to verify your identity with PayPal.

When creating up an Apple ID for a child, you need a credit card on file or you can also use a driver's license or state ID added to Wallet.

You can follow these steps to add a credit card as a payment method to your Apple ID:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Media & Purchases, then tap View Account. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.
4. Tap Manage Payments.
5. Tap Add Payment Method.
On iPhone, the Add Payment button appears below the list of payment methods.
 6. Enter the payment method details, then tap Done.

We hope this helps.

Have a wonderful day!
