Rewind, Play/Pause, Skip buttons not working

macOS 13.0.1 (22A400).

Rewind, Play/Pause, Skip buttons - I used to use these to control music playing on chrome. These stopped working. I have tried "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" selected and unselected. Neither of the options work. All other keys like brightness, launchpad, volume low/high/mute work. Only rewind, play, skip do not work. The rewind/skip/pause keys do not even work on iTunes/Music app.

Hi rashmiwadhwa,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Are you using an external keypad or the built-in keypad on your MacBook Pro? One thing you can try is the troubleshooting steps in this article to see if it address the issue you're facing. See: If your Mac doesn’t respond to key presses

If other keys don’t work
You may have accidentally set an option that changes how your keyboard operates.
1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Accessibility  in the sidebar, then click Keyboard on the right. (You may need to scroll down.) Make sure Slow Keys is turned off. If Slow Keys is on, you must press and hold a key longer than usual before it’s recognized.
2. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Accessibility in the sidebar, then click Pointer Control on the right. (You may need to scroll down.) Make sure Mouse Keys is off.
3. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Keyboard  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Click Edit next to Input Sources on the right, then turn on “Show Input menu in menu bar.” Open the Input menu, then make sure the correct keyboard layout is selected.

Keep us posted on the results.

Cheers.

rashmiwadhwa,

Thanks for letting us know. From what you described in your original post, it would be a good idea to check to see if the issue persists in safe mode.

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

1) On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.

2) Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.

3) Select a volume.

4) Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Performing this step above may help resolve the issue or allow us to isolate the problem further.

If you're still experiencing the same issue, then try testing in a new user to see if you're still noticing the same problem there: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

Please do not hesitate to reach back out to us if you have questions or need any additional support.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!
