Lock Screen keeps trying to edit

Whenever I am holding my iPhone, if I glance at it (facial recognition), it keeps going to edit mode. Is there a way to disable this?

Hey there Shalindria,

While we're unsure of exactly what you meant when it goes into 'edit mode' after looking at your Lock Screen, we'd like to help by ruling out some general details, along with confirming some more details to better understand the issue:

  1. What exactly did you mean by it going into 'edit mode'? The more details you provide, the better we'll understand what's happening.
  2. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  3. Since you're using a compatible model, the latest version is iOS 16.1.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!

Hello Shalindria,

So, it sounds like you're having issues with the new customization features for Lock Screen. Is it possible that you're simply not touching and holding the Lock Screen long enough for the Customize button to appear or holding steady enough to not move to the Home Screen? The reason we ask is simply because, when the iPhone unlocks with Face ID, it doesn't change screens automatically, you would need to swipe it to move to the Home Screen.

Personalize your iPhone Lock Screen - Apple Support

Create a custom Lock Screen

Touch and hold the Lock Screen until the Customize button appears at the bottom of the screen.
If the Customize button doesn’t appear, touch and hold the Lock Screen again, then enter your passcode.

1. Tap the Add New button at the bottom of the screen.

2. The Lock Screen wallpaper gallery appears.

The Add New Wallpaper screen showing a gallery of wallpaper choices for customizing the iPhone Lock Screen, in categories such as Featured, Suggested Photos, and Photo Shuffle. At the top are buttons for adding photos, people, a photo shuffle, emoji, and a weather screen background to the Lock Screen.
3. Tap one of the wallpaper options to select it as your Lock Screen.

For some wallpaper choices, you can swipe left or right to try different color filters, patterns, and fonts that complement each other.

4. Tap Add, then do one of the following:

- Choose whether to use the wallpaper on both the Lock Screen and Home Screen: Tap Set as Wallpaper Pair.
- Make further changes to the Home Screen: Tap Customize Home Screen. Tap a color to change the wallpaper color, tap the Photo On Rectangle button to use a custom photo, or select Blur to blur the wallpaper so the apps stand out.

Best regards.
