Apple earphones says "accessory not supported".

I have been using apple ear phones with my I pad for awhile , today while using them I get the notice accessory not supported any suggestions to remedy this please, the charging cables works fine. How can I remedy the notice that my apple head phones are not supported ,on my iPad ,this just came up whilst I was using them
