External monitor is stuck at 30hz

I have a 4k monitor that seems to be locked at 30hz on my 2020, 13inch MBP. It's currently on Monterey, 12.3.1. It's connected directly via USB-C, and using other laptops it supports 4k with 60hz so it doesn't appear to be the hardware. I looked into using EasyRes but I'm only able to see 30hz on the 4k display. At 1440p I can get 144hz.

Is someone able to suggest a resolution for my resolution? All documentation indicates that it should be supported with this combination, and I've used different 4k monitors with success.

Monitor is Gigabyte M32UC.

Hey Trish --

The posted link doesn't contain any information regarding refresh rate. My monitor is detected, and does not appear blurry. I was wondering if that was the right link you meant to post? In terms of support it's only a single monitor, so all information on paper indicates support.

I just tried restarting my computer and it's still stuck at 30hz. I've tried 2 different USB-C cables, however seeing as the hardware works with other laptops this appears to be a problem specific to my Macbook Pro. I've also tried to hold option and click on scaled, as well as toggle it, but also no avail to changing the refresh rate. For reference, I've been able to use 4k 60hz on a smaller monitor (27in) instead of the (32in) to success.

Cheers,

Hi Nate_T,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities!

Since noting this, has your MacBook Pro been restarted? Restarting our device can help when we are experiencing unexpected issues such as this one. Go to the Apple menu (  ) > Restart.

You can find additional steps to troubleshoot your display and your Mac here: If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry when connected to your Mac - Apple Support.

Hope that helps!

Hello Nate_T,

Thanks for reaching back out. We're happy to look into this more. There are a few models of MacBook Pro that were released in 2020. To better know what to expect when you connect to an external display we would need to know the exact model of you MacBook Pro.  You can find that out using these instructions:

Find your Mac model name and serial number - Apple Support

Just to verify, you're using the steps found in this article when attempting to change the resolution, correct: Change your Mac display’s resolution - Apple Support

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Select your display on the right, click the pop-up menu next to Resolution, choose Scaled, then select the resolution you want to use.
You may be able to turn on “Show all resolutions” to see additional resolutions for the display.

Best Regards.
