Trying to erase disk before returning an old MacBook Air for refund after purchase of new computer. Erase is not an availabe option with Disk Utility. Tried starting in recover mode, it won't get past the Apple logo mode.

If you just want to surrender that Mac to Apple for recycling you don't need to to anything else. They will ensure its internal storage will be destroyed.
