Copy photos from iPhone to Windows?

I'm trying to copy thousands of photos and videos from my iPhone to my Windows PC. I tried just connecting the phone via USB, then dragging the photos across, but...

  1. The photos are divided into folders, and some have duplicate names
  2. The import always fails at some point or other in the middle, and I can't figure out how to pick up where I left off without starting all over again.

Is there a better way? I want to be able to say, "Import the thousands of photos and videos I shot during October, and if something goes wrong, just pick up where you left off and try again".

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Instead of doing it by the thousand break it down and do little by little. This is an issue with Windows not the iphone.

To add to the above you should be able to search the iPhone's DCIM folder for everything *.* sort by date modified, then copy in batches. I make nested folders for each year, and then each month, e.g. \2022\2022-11\ for the current month, and then copy items off one month at a time. That way I only need to go back as far as the last time I updated my imports to get all the new photos. You may find there are some files that just will not copy over, in which case break up your selection into smaller batches to isolate the problem file.
